20140519-135105.jpg My humanities students and I have been focusing upon the particular importance of subjectivity in the 21st century. For them of course, every conversation is within the “Cambodian context,” yet the fundamental question is one I suspect may benefit anyone anywhere.

20140519-144751.jpg At its essential core, subjectivity is an awareness of one’s own beliefs and an awareness of the sources of those beliefs. Subjectivity can be further interpreted as the ability to identify one’s self in an otherwise chaotic bombardment of an oftentimes conflicting and contradictory stream of ideas and information.
