We were reckless, fearful, informed, and indestructible kids growing up and coming out in a world that believed AIDS was a modern form of wrathful retribution. Somehow despite HIV, heroin, methamphetamine, and ourselves, we managed to survive an era that had us otherwise convinced our doom was certain. I am grateful this history portrayed in “Dallas Buyers Club” is being kept alive in spite of assertions it is thankfully no longer cogent. For me, the mid-80’s to mid-90’s set the tone for each subsequent era through which I have lived and survived. I would not have emigrated to Cambodia in 2003 had I not had a ringside seat for the death of naïveté, the bankrupting of Neverland, and the birth of Republican theocracy and neoconservative imperialism. How long until that very recent story is arguably no longer cogent and is in need of being retold?
