The other day, Leni and I walked through the “traditional” (smelly) market. More than one shopkeeper reached out and stroked her and commented in Khmer as if in disbelief. Honestly, children are regarded as little more than indentured servants over here, and anytime one defies the norm, people are surprised and bewildered. Never once, does it cross their minds that perhaps they themselves are to blame for the idiocy of this place. Long live the long dead great Khmer empire, but forsake those who might dare be able to forge a better future!
